Daily Blog 14 of 14… Its over. Cho and I walked from 12 midday Sunday straight through the night and arrived at the Atlantic Ocean at 9am today local time. 85km in 21 hours. Feelings? Almost impossible to convey. I’d prepared myself to be disappointed but I was close to tears looking out into the [...]

Daily Blog 13 of 14… This is an odd one to have to write. Last night at 3am we still had 85km to walk. The plan had been to push on all night to give us some rest in Maruda on Sunday night – just short of the final beach arrival on Monday morning. I [...]

“The tides are dangerous around Belem.” we’d been warned. “The water level fluctuates greatly and the currents can be very strong.” Cho and I acknowledged the advice and ignored it simultaneously. We’ve had so much negativity over two and a half years that our response is weary and somewhat dismissive. The other reason we ignore [...]

Daily Blog 11 of 14. Another very short blog entry I’m afraid as Cho, Keith (photographer) and I are up at 4am to get ready to paddle across the river to Belem. Today was a endurance epic. Finally started walking at 7am and finished (arrived at Porto do Arapari) at 10pm. With emails, admin, logistics [...]

Daily Blog 9 of 14… The daily grind is slightly unrelenting at the moment and normally Cho and I would be taking a break to recover in this state. But we need to do over 45km each day and so we are off to start walking again now and have another full day in the [...]

Daily Blog 8 of 14… Its a bit like watching a clock for weeks on end. The road walking is punctuated with ticking signs that tell you how many kilometres there are to go. One moment we are 86 from Belem. Twelve and a half minutes later – tick – 85. Scorched by the equatorial [...]
